Fueling the future: The reward of nurturing tomorrow’s automotive talent

The University of the Aftermarket Foundation's commitment to education and talent development in the automotive industry is absolutely unparalleled. To be part of this initiative, to contribute to the nurturing of young minds who are the future of the automotive aftermarket, is an experience that keeps me coming back year after year.

This year, as part of the University of the Aftermarket Foundation scholarship team, I had the privilege of reviewing 99 scholarship applications. Each one was a unique testament to the drive, passion and relentless dedication of students vying to make their mark on the automotive aftermarket.

Their stories were as diverse as they were inspiring. Traditional students just embarking on their journeys mingled with non-traditional ones, bringing a wealth of life experiences to this dynamic field. I found myself moved by their determination to overcome challenges, their unyielding curiosity and their deep-set passion for the automotive industry. Their applications were not merely forms filled out; they were narratives of ambition, resilience and hope!

This hands-on involvement in nurturing the industry’s future is what makes the scholarship review process so rewarding. As a review group, we work tirelessly to ensure every deserving candidate gets their chance to shine. This is not a task we take lightly. It’s about more than just evaluating applications; it’s about recognizing potential and fostering talent. Every year, we see these young minds ready to charge forth, armed with new ideas and fresh perspectives and it is an absolute joy to be a part of their journey. And we need their talent!

With that said, I’m already signed up to review applications next year.

A special thanks to Jenny Tio of Maximum Marketing for asking me at an AAPEX Show a few years back to be part of this process.
