Eaton announced it will supply its ELocker differential system to a prominent electric vehicle manufacturer for a new plug-in hybrid SUV.

This SUV uniquely features an electric motor for the rear wheels and the option of an electric motor or an internal combustion engine for the front wheels, Eaton says.

According to Mark Kramer, business unit director at Eaton’s Mobility Group, the ELocker was engineered to work with the lighter, less viscous fluid used in electric drives.

Eaton’s ELocker is an electronic locking differential that provides enhanced control and traction by distributing torque equally to both wheels on demand, making it ideal for off-road and recreational use.

The system stands out for its strength, durability, and reliability, featuring net-forged gears and electronic controls, which allow for driver-selectable operation, Eaton says.
