Advance Auto Parts receives UL Validation for DieHard Platinum and Gold Automotive Batteries

DieHard Platinum and Gold batteries are produced by Clarios, a global leader in advanced battery technologies and energy storage solutions.

Manufactured by Clarios, DieHard’s line of Platinum and Gold batteries now carry validation for closed-cycle recycled content contributing to a circular economy

Advance Auto Parts (NYSE: AAP), a leading automotive aftermarket parts provider, announced today that its DieHard brand of Platinum and Gold automotive batteries have received circular economy validation as confirmed by UL.

DieHard Platinum and Gold batteries are produced by Clarios, a global leader in advanced battery technologies and energy storage solutions. Advance now offers three types of DieHard batteries that are UL validated. Last year, Advance and DieHard received validation for its Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery, making it the first auto battery ever to receive the special designation from UL. Also manufactured by Clarios, DieHard AGM batteries have applications for internal combustion, start stop, hybrid and electric-powered vehicles.

UL’s team of experts used a science-based, mass balance approach within its recycled content standard (UL 2809, the Environmental Claim Validation for Recycled Content) to validate the sustainable reclamation and manufacturing process of DieHard Platinum and Gold batteries. Used batteries collected at Advance retail stores undergo a recovery process, with plastics and lead recycled and used by Clarios in the production of new DieHard AGM, Platinum and Gold batteries.

“Advance is excited to continue our commitment to environmental sustainability by partnering with Clarios to achieve this validation for DieHard Platinum and Gold batteries,” said Jason McDonell, Advance’s executive vice president of merchandising, marketing and eCommerce. “Through UL’s extensive research, we are proud to say that every DieHard AGM, Platinum and Gold battery sold at Advance and Carquest locations contains recycled content from old batteries returned to our stores. We appreciate the effort and research from Clarios and UL to secure this validation, and we look forward to advancing today’s motorists with more sustainable battery choices for their vehicles.”

During the validation process, UL determined that new DieHard Platinum and Gold batteries contain a minimum of 94% recycled content from batteries collected at Advance retail stores, significantly reducing the environmental impact and resources needed to manufacture new plastics or mine for virgin lead.

“We were proud to partner with Advance to help them secure UL’s Circular Economy validation for their Platinum, Gold and AGM DieHard batteries,” said Adam Muellerweiss, Clarios chief sustainability officer. “Battery recycling is critically important to the future of transportation and we’re committed to leading efforts and partnering with customers around the world to increase and support battery recycling programs.”

Since 1967, DieHard has served as one of the automotive industry’s most recognizable brands. As America’s most trusted auto battery*, DieHard batteries are renowned by motorists for reliability, durability and starting power, even in the most extreme weather climates.

DieHard batteries are sold at Advance and participating Carquest locations nationwide. DieHard batteries are also available at participating TechNet Professionalindependently-owned repair shops across North America.
